The printed version of the series is published in the magazine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationales-verkehrswesen.de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Internationales Verkehrswesen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Topic and objectives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The main topic of the Monitor is the transformation in the traffic sector in terms of a shift away from private car use to an increase in demand for shared and public transport. The methodological objective is to find indicators for changes in supply, behaviour and attitudes that make change \u201cmeasurable\u201d. The monitor also serves to change perspective from the isolated consideration of individual modes of transport to a market of networked transport and mobility services. We intend to offer new instruments and interpretations as a supplement to conventional transport statistics. The monitor is thus an attempt for an integrative perspective of figures and data on the transformation in the traffic sector. The implementation takes place in the form of explained figures. We present the changes in the mobility market in varying combinations and dimensions, including the following aspects:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <strong>Modal view<\/strong>: \u201cclassical\u201d presentation of common parameters, such as traffic performance or number of routes<br \/>\u2022 <strong>Inter- and multimodality<\/strong>: new user patterns as a combination of means of transport such as passenger cars, trains, buses, bicycles, etc.<br \/>\u2022 <strong>Shared mobility<\/strong>: services in \u201cpublic individual transport\u201d or means of transport in shared use (e.g. car, bike, scooter and ride sharing)<br \/>\u2022<strong> Transport as a CO2 emitter<\/strong>: various energy bases of propulsion systems including the primary sources of electric vehicles in their various forms (battery electric, hybrid or hydrogen-based)<br \/>\u2022 <strong>Mobility environment Digitalisation<\/strong>: changing information channels &amp; access media (e.g. visual, electronically separated or digitally integrated), automated &amp; connected driving<\/p>\n<p>We follow these and other overarching trends in the regularly published Monitor. From August 2017 to July 2019, the Monitor was published as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wzb.eu\/de\/forschung\/digitalisierung-und-gesellschaftlicher-wandel\/wissenschaftspolitik\/projekte\/energie-und-verkehrswende-als-herausforderung-fuer-die-sozialwissenschaftliche-forschung\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WZB project \u201cThe transition to clean energy and transport systems as a challenge for social science research\u201d<\/a> Led by Prof Dr Andreas Knie and supported by the Mercator Foundation. Since 2019, WZB and M-Five have continued the series as separate releases. The longstanding publication partner is the journal \u201cInternational Transportation\u201d (Internationales Verkehrswesen): The Monitor is published twice a year in printed form \u2013 in issues 2 (March\/April\/May) and 4 (October\/November\/December). Previous issues of Monitor are digitally available here and on the website of the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internationales-verkehrswesen.de\/der-mobilitaetsmonitor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cInternational Transportation\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Currently the Monitor shows the traffic in the major German cities of Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt am Main, Stuttgart, Essen and Leipzig. This covers eight of the ten largest cities of Germany with a combined population of over 10 million. Future variations of the survey area are possible.
