Four different types of Innovation Systems can be distinguished:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sectoral Innovation System (SIS) focussed on innovations of an economic sector e.g. automotive industry, pharmaceutical industry.<\/li>\n<li>Technological Innovation System (TIS) focussed on innovations related to a specific technology e.g. lithium-ion batteries, wind turbines.<\/li>\n<li>Regional Innovation Systems (RIS) focussed on a region e.g. a European NUTS-II zone like the district of Karlsruhe.<\/li>\n<li>National Innovation Systems (NIS) to analyse the innovative capability of a country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Any Innovation System consists of its actors from business, science, policy-making and NGOs. Further elements are framework conditions like taxation and incentives, financial environment and entrepreneurship. Also the innovation infrastructure is important like the existing technical standards and norms, the safeguarding of intelectual property rights (IPR), the availability of subsidies or venture capital. Finally, the market structure (B2B, B2C, etc.) is an important characteristics of an innovation system.<\/p>\n<p>M-Five has analysed the innovation systems of the different transport modes and has coined the term of <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1016\/j.trpro.2016.05.508\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">modal innovation systems<\/a>. Our scientists also were amongst the first to describe and assess the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/270580118_New_mobility_concepts_myth_or_emerging_reality\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> innovation system generating new mobility services<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Continuously we are working on deepening the knowledge about Innovation Systems participating in cooperative research projects.
